In an effort to include all Tillman County Vets, we add this name, Lt. Robert Lyle Bacon. This is based on an article on page 81 of publication. It included in a list of boys killed while in the service of our country, from Davidson, OK. Any furthur information is appreciated.

"Lt. Robert Lyle Bacon (January 6, 1922-February 20, 1945) was awarded the oak leaf cluster upon three different occasions in recognition of his "meritorious achievement" as an Air Force officer during World War II.  He also received numerous citations and the Purple Heart.

Bacon was not scheduled to fly the mission to Luzon on February 20, 1945. But when another officer was unable to man his position, Bob agreed to take his buddy's place. It was during this mission that enemy fire downed the plane "somewhere over Formosa."

Lt Bacon is also listed on the War Memorial for Tillman county vets.
